Ethnic rhinoplasty: refinement without erasing identity

Rhinoplasty is not one operation applied to every nose. Noses differ in cartilage strength, skin thickness, and structure across ethnic backgrounds, and good rhinoplasty respects those differences, both technically and aesthetically.
Technically, a thicker-skinned nose with softer cartilage requires different strategies (often structural grafting to create definition) than a thin-skinned nose where every small change shows. Aesthetically, the goal of ethnic rhinoplasty is refinement in harmony with the patient's features and heritage, not conversion to a single idealized nose. Most patients want their nose improved and balanced, not replaced with one that looks out of place on their face.
The surgeon's experience with diverse anatomy matters enormously here; techniques that flatter one nasal type can look wrong on another. A thoughtful consultation explores what the patient actually wants, frequently subtle harmony rather than dramatic change, and plans accordingly. The best results enhance the nose while keeping it recognizably, naturally the patient's own.
